Engineered for Scale: Enabling Reliable Performance in Large Rotomolded Tanks

Dow

Rotomolded tanks are essential infrastructure, enabling the safe storage of water, chemicals, fuels, and food-grade materials across industries. Manufactured as seamless, one-piece polyethylene structures, they deliver superior resistance to corrosion, impact, and environmental stress, providing long-lasting, leak-proof performance and clear advantages over traditional materials such as steel, fiberglass, and concrete.

As tank sizes scale, rotational molding introduces new challenges, from long heating cycles and large shot weights to maintaining uniform wall thickness and defect-free consolidation. Dow’s XDPDC-4511 was engineered to meet these demands for tanks up to 20,000 gallons. It combines high melt strength to resist sagging at elevated temperatures with controlled flow for uniform mold coverage and consistent sintering, ensuring reliable wall formation in large geometries.

The result is a resin with a broad processing window, enabling flexibility in oven conditions and cycle times while delivering consistent quality. Dow’s XDPDC-4511 supports improved internal surface integrity, reducing defects such as pinholes and minimizing discoloration under extended thermal exposure. It also delivers a strong balance of stiffness, toughness, environmental stress crack resistance, and impact performance, providing a durable and scalable solution for next-generation large rotomolded tanks.
